This is our power control unit designed to control power to a few of our larger Tesla Coils. It was mainly designed for our 12" Coil System, but is capable of driving a much more powerful coil. All of the components are built into an old Ham radio repeater cabinet. The main input power variac is rated 520V @ 30A I believe. The controller contains at least 4 high-current contactors, one small 120V 10A variac for RSG control, a 12V instrumentation transformer, SCR's, cooling fan, and other miscellaneous stuff. The front panel was designed to be relatively simple, with a mains power ON keyswitch, 120/240 output voltage switch, on/off indicator lights for main and RSG output, output voltage and current metering, a hobbs meter to log time on the coil, and of course hand cranks for the main output variac, and the RSG variac. As of now, the unit easily powers our 10kVA coil continuously with no problems. Some modification will enable us to run upwards of 15kVA.
