I have a couple of handheld field mills for industrial use that I am
going to try using for storm monitoring the next time a storm gets
close to us (hopefully tomorrow). One has a chart recorder output
which I have tried using with a little A/D box and charting software
on the mac and it seems to work well. I am fascinated by
atmospheric electricity and would be interested in hearing about
other people's setups. One of my favorite devices and one of the
simplest which we discussed on this list a few years ago is the
little NE2 relaxation oscillator hooked up to a pointed rod. I was
thinking that this one might be interesting to try with a sensitive
current meter in place of the relaxation oscillator. A "Franklin's
Bells" setup could be interesting as well to try provided the
terminal is not placed to high and some other precautions are taken.

Zap!
