Technically, one gap breaks down (or is fired) before all the others, 
abruptly
placing twice the stage voltage across the next gap, which is then 
radically
over-voltaged so it breaks down even faster, and so on.  This happens 
in less
than a thousandth of a second (or much faster, in a good design).  To 
the human
eye, it all appears to happen simultaneously.

Not sure why you're asking, but you will never see the erection 
sequence on video.
It all happens in a time frame that is much shorter than a single video 
scan.

I agree.  I'm just waiting for enough caps to fall into my hands, or 
the time
and money to build a bunch of stage caps.
