Ian,

Multi-layered coils won't work. Think about it: the voltage difference between layers will be huge and will overcome almost any wire insulation. Hobbyists coils are always single layer. Use a different secondary form if you need more/less wire on your secondary.

If you would put on an additional layer of wire windings over the
secondary, witch way should the layers go? I want to i want to increase
the number of turns and not worry about arcing.
