You will find quite a bit of discussion on primaries, especialy in the old 
messages.

Chris, you should have used copper or aluminum tubing it is much easier to 
bend! Since your commited to using the #8 solid aluminum you will have to 
periodicaly aneal the wire so you will be able to bend it. Basicaly 
anealing is simply heating the wire to a cherry red anallowing it to cool 
relatively slowly, with copper and aluminum the slow cooling isn't as 
important as it is in the ferrous metals. The reason the anealing has to 
be repeated is that copper and aluminum harden when worked, ie repeately 
bent.
