Sounds like you have a real mess! :-o The only way to get a nice neat
primary is to start with a well designed and supportive primary form. I
flat spiral is relatively easy to wind, though time consuming. You need
to make four (or more!) strips of wood or 3/8" plexiglass to hold the
wire/pipe. Below is an example of what they might look like- the "O"
marks represent drill holes where the wire/tube would pass through.
These four strips would be arranged radially 90 degrees apart (second
diagram), and notice that the hole spacing allows for the wire to spiral
outward:

 Inside Edge Outside Edge

     --------------------------------------------
1 | O O O O O O O O O O O |
     --------------------------------------------

     --------------------------------------------
2 | O O O O O O O O O O |
     --------------------------------------------

     --------------------------------------------
3 | O O O O O O O O O O |
     --------------------------------------------

     --------------------------------------------
4 | O O O O O O O O O O |
     --------------------------------------------
          |.5"|

Arrangement: (S = secondary coil, end view)

            |1
            |
            |
            |

          ----- 2
-------- | S | --------
4 -----

            |
            |
            |
            |3

After these strips are glued down to a base platform, all you have to do
is start inching the wire through the holes (easiest to start from the
outside) until it reaches the center. This takes A WHILE!!! Be patient
and if you get frustrated, go and do something else for a while.

Hope this helps,

-Adam
