Spark type question

Can someone explain to me why there is a difference in the type of spark

a coil puts out?
Example, some have a long wiggly bolt like most magnifiers and the
latest Dr. Resonance coil and others have many branches off of a bolt
(much cooler looking, in my opinion). This does not seem to relate to
power levels or the size of the coil or bolt.
