Hello Adam:

I also have a coil similar in size to yours. We take it out to schools for
demos from time to time. We use the power line ground and 12 AWG wire on
the wiring. We also run a separate 8 AWG stranded wire from the base of
the sec coil to any other ground we can find such as a water line or
electrical panel, etc. This arrangment seems to work out fine for demos
and sometimes we don't have any other ground so we just rely on the power
line ground and it seems to work fine for short runs in a classroom
environment. We use a large copper battery clip on the 8 AWG wire to make
it convenient to clip to any other nearby grounds in the classroom.

Hope this helps out.
