One of the systems I lashed together for evaluation for the 
commercial job has a helical primary (they wanted something looking 
mildly traditional). Best results were with the secondary sunk down 
to the start of the primary. Nice discharges and reaching streamers
attaching out to about 28" from a 12kV 60mA transformer. That 
particular resonator was 20" long.
