The toroid determines the top capacitance on the secondary. The larger the
toroid, the bigger the sparks and the lower the frequency f=1/2*Pi*sqrt(LC)
where C is the capacitance of a toroid in space and L is the inductance of
the secondary. So pick a size and make sure that the new frequency is
within the tuning range of your primary arrangement.
