I have experienced this same too. Higher fire rate (that is, lower break voltage
and gap spacing) results in longer streamers. The problem is that the spark gap
gets a lot wormer, actually too much. That is why I am building a rotary spark
gap to have better cooling, higher and STABLE break rate. I plan to use 400
breaks/s.

Well, could you please tell me a little about your next gap above mentioned?
Is that
going to be a static one?
