It doesn't work real well.  TC systems need a reasonable amount of power to
recharge the cap rapidly.  This usually requires a NST delivering 30-60 ma
of current at 9, 12, or 15 kV.  Current makes most coils work well and only
reasonable potential is required to properly break down the spark gap, ie,
a min usually of around 7-9 kV.  Most standard oscillators use a 12 kV
either 30 or 60 ma neon sign transformer (NST).  Good luck.
