If you are getting a spark in your spark gap then you should get something out of the treminal.  Try placing a metal object (while the coil is off) on top of the coil about 1/2" from the terminal. You should get a weak spark.  If you do your coil is just out of tune.  If not you are pobibly not even getting you input 9kv back out of the coil.  Go to http://www.pupman-dot-com and check you schematic in comparison to theirs.  Also test your cap on a multimeter that tests capacitance.  If you do not have one ask a local school physics teacher.  Your cap should be arround .001 to .01mf.  Happy coiling
