... and they typically use a low-temperature tin-zinc eutectic alloy
(91% tin, 9% zinc), soldering it UNDERNEATH the oil. This alloy wets the
aluminum readily, flows easily, and being a eutectic, goes from a liquid
to a solid without the "mushy" phase that can give you a cold solder
joint. Other mixes include alloys of tin, lead, bismuth, and cadmium,
and I have heard that even pure tin will work satisfactorily.
