Be sure to tell your friend to never build a large coil and use a pole
transformer.  He won't need the hospital for recovery.

There is a strong lesson here --- never touch anything in the oscillator
while it is running,  Keep back 6-8 feet minimum from any small or medium
size coil which the HV is on.   A distance of double the spark length of the
sec coil is usually sufficient.   Triple the spark length for any visitors.
