Re: Arcs off the fingers and getting killed in the process...

I personally think Jim's response is very well said. My experience is very
similar, except I never got ahold of the Anarchists Crapbook until after I
had already successfully synthesized glycerol trinitrate (Nitroglycerine),
got the procedure and precautions from a book I read on the chemistry of
Nitrogen. If I had first discovered the Crapbook, then I would have injured
myself and possibly others. Not that I wasn't already pushin' my luck. But,
the curious nature of our species lends us to do the dangerous. Tesla
Coiling and all other HV experimenting will attract the adventurous youth,
and that is good! But never make something a "taboo", less it becomes even
more a prize. Education is the real clue, and encouragement to do things
incrementally. As folks learn, they will then find respect. But, I think
withholding safety precautions and procedures that the, so called experts
use, is criminal. In pyrotechnics, no one withholds the safety precautions
taken, that would be a hazard to the industry.
