Scot, all,

This may be true for certain NST's but not for Jeffersons.  The jefferson
shunts are part of the core and would have to be cut away to get rid
of them.  There are little thin pieces of metal (two of them) that are
placed in an air cap between core sections, and this may have some
effect on the current.  This gap is about 1/32" or so wide.  But the
Jeffersons don't have the separare shunt bricks that look like MOT
shunts.
