Re: Wives and Tesla coils

My first memory of a TC goes back to the 30's, when I used to watch the
guys in the University of Missouri EE lab play with a rather large coil
(3'+ sparks) excited by a coil from an old 1 kW spark transmitter, and
with a non-synchronous rotary gap. The high-pitched whine of that thing
is something I still recall with pleasure. Most of the noise from that
coil came from the discharge, and got really loud when someone started
an arc with a grounded pole and then drew it out by separating the
terminals.
