This is a gap that has two fixed electrods with air blown into the gap to
help cooling and quenching.  the air is from an air compressor or very
powerful fan.  The air flow often helps the coils performance dramaitcally.

Rotary Spark Gap.  This has a rotor with electrodes on it that spins in a
circle.  It is run by a motor that can be made to be syncronous with the AC
line voltage to get really good performance.  It is much more complex that
static gaps but it has excellent cooling.  Avery nice one is shown below:
