Might work - you would need a very powerful laser pointer though - those
things are rated at like 5mW - far to little to drive a motor. Alternatively
you could have an LDR and point your laser at that then make a voltage
divider. etc to control the motor on or off - no reverse though

I think terry is gonna stop posting these cos they are getting a bit off
topic...
