Yes, yes, and yes, an asynchronous rotary gap is torture on a transformer, 
whether it be a NST, OBIT, MOT, pig, potential xfmr, etc.

NST's are not built like power distribution transformers, and will *most 
likely* fail quickly when used w/ an async. gap vs. static or sync RSG.
