This is a great idea... I've always thought that it would be really cool,
particularly for showing kids, because the faster they crank, the bigger the
sparks.

The other idea would be to hook the field phone generator to a OBIT/NST/etc
with a rectifier that charges a cap for "single shot" kind of operation.
What about using GM High Energy Ignition coil?  You could extend and surpass
Terry's record in the  GMHEICSLR, in the "human powered" division.
