Contrary to popular belief, I am not dead, nor have I dissapeared from the
face of the earth, but it has been a while since I posted (over a month!).

Why can't you just place the HV windings in parrellel instead of series?
Almost all 14.4KV pigs are built with 2 HV windings which are placed in
series for 14.4KV operation, or parrellel for 7200 volt operation. It is a
very simple procedure for opening the tank and swithching the connections. I
am a fan of low voltage coils (I have a MOT coil that runs on two
unballasted MOTs with no voltage doublers that kicks out over six feet of
spark, for those that don't know), but if I were you I would go with the
higher voltage, save your rolled cap, and build an MMC. Higher voltage means
a smaller cap for the same throughput, the gap is easier to construct, etc.
