real picture: the humble oscilloscope.

You shouldn't need to guess at Fr - this list and its resources are 
alive with well-tested formulae which agree with each other. How many 
turns on your secondary? That is the only other piece of information 
we need to know if your running with no topload.

Too high a voltage between source and drain suggests itself. A scope 
would get the answers in no time.

? Get an application data sheet, either from the manufacturer's 
databook or maybe the web. There must be something out there. You can 
calculate the component values needed to make it work at the 
frequency you want. Is it a standard 555 or CMOS version? Got a 
circuit we can see?

Are you coupling the MOSFET to the secondary via an untuned primary?
