Brian,Justin, all,
I have just plugged in the numbers for my big coil. I am getting regular
7 foot arcs with 2.2 kva input. either I am pushing more than 2.2 kva though
my tranny or the coil is very efficient. Must check the input current again.
with a digital multimeter across the variac it is drawing around 8 amps. The
output voltage is 8200v and the cap is a 70nF mmc. the sec is 42" x 10"
wound with 18 awg wire. I have both a static and a rotary gap.The arc length
is about the same except that the static gap doesn't quench very well. The
top load is one Finn hammer toriod with a 48" x 8" ducting toriod on top.
The Frequency is about 129 kHz----- Comments anyone?
cheers
bob golding
