Mike, all, 

Funny that you mention using a Tesla coil for a stage prop 
for a musical band. I recall seeing a couple of music videos 
(Luther Vandross and Milli Vanilli?) not sure? that showed 
discharges from a Tesla coil. As a matter of fact, one of the 
videos showed streamers and the large Tesla coil that was 
producing them. Of course this was images on a video and 
did not involve a "live" coil in the presence of a large crowd 
of fans.
