All the technical calculations aside, a good simple rule of thumb is to plan
your MMC to handle about twice the voltage of your NST.  That would be 24Kv or
so in your case (and mine).  Also make your cap an LTR cap, this will help keep
the voltages ringing back to a manageable level for the NST.

I use 2 strings of 15 .056/1.6kv caps in parallel, then parallel another
identical set to that for LTR.  Works great, and the caps barely even get luke
warm.
