Would not the motor turn on its own at the RLA without a second motor to
turn it. Then with the pig in series, the voltage drop across the motor
would drop significantly, (guessing to about 1/2 voltage) doing what (?) to
the balasting effect. Then to lock the rotor for any significant amount of
time would (I think, generate quite of bit of heat in the winding? I'm not
sure but 15kva at LRA would be a lot of energy to dissapate in the form of
"braking". It's a good idea, but would these issues be too overwelming to
allow it to be practical.

The catch is in slowing the rotor down. That means power losses
somewhere, even if the loss is in the form of frictional heating.
Please correct me if I've misunderstood.
