RE: tesla coil is an air core. why?

what if you used compressed air?  A tank of compressed air as a core would 
probably continue to arrive at similar hysteresis and inductance problems
due 
to the tank, but the compressed air may provide some added benefit making it

worth exploring?  You conceivably could build a coil inside a large tank and

compress the air inside, but it seems teh tank woudl have to be pretty
large to 
test anything useful with it, and even then......

Heavy hypothesis... but can anyone speculate as to what effect compressed
air 
would have upon a TC if used as the 'core'\
