Taking the reference to Very High Frequency
         literally:
Corum & Corum described a VHF (160 MHzish, If I
Recall) unit built by a student. CW drive,
1/4 wave of wire over a coaxial 1/4 wave feed.
(aka 'bazooka matcher'.) Said to have had a
nice 'flamey' plasma discharge from the open end.

>resonator system that used a cavity for a secondary.

Arguably not a cavity resonator, there are better
         waveguide folk than i, 'here'.

One set of such was described by the Corum's. Dunno
if in Vacuum Tube Tesla coils, or TeslaCon proceedings
         or ???
