Nele,

Your explanation of a magnifier sounds very much like that 
expounded by the Corum brothers.  Most of the thinking on
this list is that the magnifier works very similarly to a normal
Tesla coil.  I've built a number of magnifiers, and I've never
seen any advantage.  Longest sparks are obtained when
the primary is tuned to the "combined" secondary and
extra coil frequencies.
