I don't think the gaps are refiring. I have since wound the BPS up to 
1000, with excellent results. I think the airblast just effectively 
reduced the dwell time by blowing the arc out quickly. I think the 
current drop was purely due to less shorting of the transformer. Just a 
hunch.
