Here's a paper (PDF) at my website which explains the operation of The
Classic Tesla Coil. The document is easy to read and understand. It is
derived from a post Bert Hickman sent to this list in reply to a similar
question a few years ago. It should deliver a good working foundation of how
a Tesla Coil functions.
