The high voltage cable that is used to carry the high voltage from the 
HV transformer to the x-ray tube head is perfactly designed for this
purpose. It consist of three seperate conductors wrapped inside a
~ 3/8" thicked walled rubber insulation. This insulation is in turn 
wrapped with a conductive carbon tape and the carbon tape is then
wrapped with aluminum screen mesh. Then the aluminum mesh is
then wrapped in a thin (1/16" thick) white (beige) rubber sheath. This,
in turn, makes for a nice flexible ~1"  cable. Of  course the carbon tape
and aluminum mesh are to be grounded and this is like a large coax
cable that can handle at least 75 kV, because that's what it's designed

BTW, I tested the x-ray cable on my coil with it disconnected from
the coil and energized: there's NO corona hiss, even at 17 kV :-)
