To provide an accurate answer we would need to know the dia. of your sec.
coil.

For approx initial design the toroid to sec. dia. ratio should be around
2:1, ie, a 10 inch dia. coil would be fitted with a 20 inch dia. torus.
Anything between 1.8 and 3.0 to 1 is an acceptable ratio.

The second design dimension is the ratio of the torus outer dia. to the dia.
of the cross sectional area.  For example, with the above 10 in. dia sec. a
20 x 5 torus or 30 x 8 torus would work well.

These ratios usually run from 4:1 to as low as 2.5 or 3.0 to 1.  A ratio of
4:1 would require a mid size cap and matching pri while the low ratios would
require a lot of pri cap and/or pri inductance to match up.

Going with the low ratio also allows you to drive the setup with a lot of
power for large spark outputs while the higher ratio does not require as
much power and is better for coils that are intended to be portable (you
don't need the usual three gorillas to haul it to a local school).

These ratios will help you get started in the right direction.
