Hi again,

My first suspect is that dinky tank cap. A MOT supply
needs a bigger cap. 50nF is a good starting point. You
should see my pal Robert's little 4" x 18" coil
running with a 50nF Geek Cap MMC. It sprays out
3-foot-plus streamers like a lunatic.
