The low frequency interference probably isn't much of a problem to
anyone but the nearest neighbors, but VHF radiation from the circuit
comprised of the gap and the leads to the tank capacitor can be quite
large.  If the leads are a significant fraction of a wavelength they
will be pretty efficient radiators, and the resultant interference will
show up on the TV's in a way which, if the viewers diagnose it and learn
where it is coming from (keep that gap quiet!) may require treatment.  I
would suspect that suitable RF chokes with shunt damping resistors
should be quite efficient at suppressing VHF interference, but haven't
run an experiment.
