Thank You (Re: Tesla's Revenge?)

I would like to thank each & every one of you who took the time to
review the essay on Bombing The Bombers. A few of my thoughts follow.

First, yes, I plead guilty to the charge of OT (Off Topic).

On my behalf, I offer Pikuach Nefesh - the obligation to save a human
life - as my excuse. I wanted to run the idea past people who knew a
thing or two about high-voltage fields - with experience, to boot -
before running it past people who might believe me if I told them that
it was worth following-up.

And I figured that, if the idea had merit, a community of folks who
*like* to play with high-voltage sources & fields would be the place
to plant the seed and let some energetic inventor take it to fruition.

This being the internet, I was happy to see that the first response
I got was (short version) "no way that's gonna work" and the second
response I got was (short version) "we built one and it worked".

My thought was that it might work on a bench-top, but that scaling
it up into a practical device that could roam whole cities was out
of the question.

In fact, I asked the guy who said it worked if it also sucked the
pacemakers out of people's chests and sent teenagers screaming for
ice to cool their braces, but I gather they didn't get that far.

In the end, the guy I should have asked first told me that, back in
The Old Days (precisely why I should have asked him first), when
radar sets were first put on aircraft carriers, bad things happened
to good ordnance. Fusing systems have since been re-designed, with
that knowledge codified in well-known engineering standards, to
protect modern ordnance from being triggered by stray RF energy.

On balance, it seems like a very large investment that would be a
little too threat-specific (against poorly-designed bombs only),
so I'll be leaving it alone.

I occasionally write little notes about The Situation, as we call
it hereabouts, and will accomodate requests for off-list copies.

Thanks again to one & all,

-30- Michael Storch
