Capcitor data and formulas

Hi All,

Scott Hanson made a very nice chart of the current handling if the GE 42L caps:

Here are ones from CD too:

It appears solid foil caps have about 2 to 3 times the current capability
of the metalized film caps. So metailized film caps could work if the
currents are not "too" high.

Here are a bunch of basic equations too:

Xc = 1 / (2 x pi x Fo x C)

Xl = 2 x pi x Fo x L

At resonance, Xc = Xl

Fo = 1 / (2 x pi x SQRT(L x C))

Vpeak = SQRT(2) x Vrms = Vfire

Ipeak = Vfire / Xc

El = 1/2 x L x I^2  for the energy in an inductor with a given current.

Ec = 1/2 x C x V^2  for the energy in a capacitor with a given voltage.

P = BPS x Ec is also very useful to find the coil's power.

dV/dt = 4 x Vpeak / Fo

dI/dt = 4 x Ipeak / Fo

Irms = SQRT(Wo / Rcap) As defined at:
