6" Autopsy

Original poster: "Harold Weiss by way of Terry Fritz <teslalist-at-qwest-dot-net>" <hweiss-at-new.rr-dot-com>

Hi All,

Got a chance to autopsy my 6" coil. All of the main components are
fine. What shut the coil down was a breakdown of the canvas phenolic board
that I mounted the components on. 6000V RMS tunneled it's way thru 3" of
the phenolic, leading me to believe that the phenolic is hydroscopic. This
was probably the reason that I was getting shorter streamers than usual. I
am going to route two 1/2" slots, one each, between the filter resistor
feedthru and the filter cap. That should make the voltage take the long
way home.
