Paul's programs with Lindows

Hi All,

If you want to run Paul's Linux programs (
http://www.abelian.demon.co.uk/tssp/ ) but are trapped in the Windows
world. I can recommend Lindows OS3.0. LindowsOS3 is a remarkably refined
Windows style Linux interface and OS that is super simple to install and
use. The background is all true blue linux but it is designed to make
things real easy for Windows users to catch on. It installed on my laptop
in a spare drive partition (nice dual boot) very easily and auto detected
everything right down to the wireless card, battery monitor, and Toshiba's
odd sound card. I am extremely impressed with it!! A very simple to use
Linux for us Windows dummies ;-)) About $120 but you are allowed to copy
it to all "your" PCs and they give you a super nice auto download tool to
install things like StarOffice, GCC, GIMP... brainlessly (and free
;-)) They have things like GCC (for Paul's C++ programs) and a ton of the
usual Linux tools from the easy install site too.

I just compiled things like TCMA with GCC (Paul gives the magic commands)
and it worked right off. Here is TCMA crunching through a scope capture:

I was able to download and edit the picture from my Olympus C-3000 with
Lindows too!! So If you want to play with Paul's programs but know zilch
about Linux, this is definitely the ticket!!! It does run much slower on
the 450MHZ AMD (and sucks 25% of the battery per run!) than it does on the
fire breathing 64 bit Sun Spark machine running Solaris, but the ease of
use makes up for that. Lindows does the floppy mounting and all goofy
stuff very easily and it does not loose me in any Linux technical
stuff. It is hard to tell it is Linux until you look at the file
directories and see all that BIN, DEV, USR, VAR... stuff. It is even
supposed to run regular Windows programs too, but why...

So now there is now excuse not to be a Linux guru too ;-)) OK, I will
never be 1% as smart as Paul at all this stuff, but at least I can run the
programs very easily now!! It also give me clues to learning Linux so
maybe I can talk better to the Sun...

Cheers,

    Terry
