Your safety strike rail can not be a continuous loop of conductive material.
It will act as a shorted turn and "steal" a lot of your power.

You can keep the loop continuous for support if you insert a 3 inch long
piece of wood somewhere in the ring.  A wood dowel of suitable size works
fine.
