Robert,

The smallest polypropylene (preferred because of smaller RF losses
and higher temperature stability) pipe, I can get, has 1.6" diameter.
PVC pipes with smaller diameters (for electric household
installation) are very thin-walled and unstable.

For the tank coil of my new VTTC I have tested AWG 9 and it got warm
rather quickly. The secondary coil form consists of a lower
fiberglass pipe and an upper ceramic form, which is glued into the
lower pipe. Both parts - and the winding of course - become warm
quickly as well. Therefore I am looking for suitable new forms.
However, I dislike messing with fiberglass and polyester ;-)

BTW: What are the advantages and disadvantages of split stator - in
comparison to butterfly- variable air capacitors?

Cheers,

Herwig
