Re: Removing Pig Top

Hey Adam...

looks like you have the type that has the "strongback" clamp
assembly... look carefully at the "bolt" at the top dead center of the
cap this should be the answer... it should be threaded and the nut
removeable ... once this is removed you will need to tap the edges of the
cap somewhat agressively to break the rubber seal loose... the cap will
loosen and you will find attached, the 2 insulators on the top to some
heafty paper coated wire going to the "inputs" of the piggie...
they dont give you too much to play with.... once you work the top around
a bit you should see a bar ( strongback) spanning the width of the
can, look for some type of fastener around the edge holding the bar (
strongback) in place... once you remove this you should be able to remove
the transformer from the can... take care to remember how the thick paper
insulation was placed

have a bunch of rags ready to asorb all the oil that will drain off of the
piggie once it is removed from the can... be careful piggies are heavy
and very slippery when oil coated... use Ty-Wraps to identify the
wires... e.g. 1 wrap for this one 2 wraps for that one etc....
there will be a minimum of 5 connections to deal with... tape wont stick
and magic markers dont work either... too much oil... if your piggie has
the switch in it be very sure to draw a schematic of how it was hooked up.....
