Yes, you can connect the other lead to what was the ground. I did the same 
thing on mine. This is a picture before final assembly(new picture shortly) 
but, as one can see, the 9/30 NST is hooked to both connections.

P.S  Watch the bottom diode, it seems to dissipate more heat then it's 
comrades.

I got a 5000 volt NST today and I want to power my 4x voltage multiplier
off it. I know I can just use half but I was wondering if I can connect the
other lead where ground usually goes on the multiplier circuit. It works
fine off of 5000 volts from 2 MOTs in series.
