Mini Coil update

Original poster: "Lau, Gary" <gary.lau@xxxxxx>

As winter weather sets in (at least for us in the Northern hemisphere),
work on that back-breaking coil in the garage can get unpleasant. What
a good time to get a round-tuit and complete that mini coil you've
always wanted! Imagine a toy that you can move with one hand and enjoy
in any room of the house. Just what every girl and boy would love to
find under the tree next month!

OK, sales-mode off. The real reason for this post is to toot Duncan
Hellmers' horn for taking first place in the category 2 mini-coil
contest. For those that don't recall, category 2 is for entrants that
don't have an exact 4kV/20mA faceplate-rated NST power supply. In his
case, Duncan produced a very respectable 10.5" from a 3.6kV/30mA NST.
Icing on the cake is a stunning mirror-finish topload sphere. Check out
the current contest entries at
http://www.laushaus.com/tesla/minicoilcontest/index.htm. You have to
click on the individual "specs" links in the results section to see the
photos and detailed specs for each entry.
