It's easy to run an experiment on such resonant behavior.  Connect a
reactor (or transformer primary) in series with a capacitor and adjust
the capacitance so the no-voltage series-resonant frequency of the
series combination higher than the line frequency.  Increase the voltage
across the combination and, as the inductance increases due to
increasing flux density in the core, an input voltage will be reached
where the input current (or capacitor/inductor voltage) will increase
discontinuously.
