Re: Using HV COAX without stripping the shield

Hi Mike,

This thought also crossed my mind. With pig power, often there are strikes to ground and only a matter of time before one of them hits the feeder lines. If the coax is grounded to the PIG casing that is grounded to safety ground, it seems like there could be a problem with the strike current entering the house. One thought is to ground the coax to RF ground so it will return the current directly to the TC base. Got to think about the ramifications.

I have one nagging concern about using unshielded hv cables on a big TC. The
possibility of ground strikes hitting these lines, and for that matter the
SG control lines. Especially without breakout point. How about throwing
grounded chickenwire or screen over the cables near the coil? Any problem
there?
