Hi Al-

I always lean on a mneumonic: Thank Goodness Many Kind Men Made No
Problem.

Terra Geiga Megga Killo Milli Micro Nano Pico
  +12 +9 +6 +3 -3 -6 -9 -12

(hope this helps! )

Perhaps Tera, Giga, Mega, Kilo, Milli, -, Micro, Nano, Pico, Femto might be more correctly spelled. SI requires use of just the powers of 1000,as above, but in practical use, you'll also see deci (=1/10th as in beer coming in a 3 deciliter glass) and centi (1/100th) as in cm.
