Hi,

I should point out that the 1/2 watt carbon film resistors we normally use are well tested into the 3000+ volt region, while the 1/4 watt types have "never" been tested at HV overvoltage... Sort of uncharted territory there...

cheaper than Digikey, etc.  You might want to get 200 5 meg resistors or 400
2.5 meg resistors so you can put more in series.  The voltage rating for
these are on the order of 500 volts or less.
